Welcome to the BeWell360° Weekly Wellness Report, providing indispensable business tips for today's practitioners!

Ever wondered how some service entrepreneurs seem to start their holistic, health, wellness or beauty-based businesses with a built-in clientele? Chances are, they are marketing to the "Millennial"-- a profitable client profile and niche market for all practitioners to consider.

Keep and eye on your Inbox... This is Part 1 in a 3 Part series of valuable hints on how to attract this generation of loyal clients!

Outnumbering Baby Boomers, Millennials are characterized as the children of the exercise crazed 1980's who were raised in the midst of the health and wellness revolution. These consumers are categorically enthusiastic product junkies, a large portion of who research all new lifestyle trends and consider spa visits, gym memberships, elective procedures and beauty treatments a cultural necessity.

So how do health, wellness and beauty practitioners reach Millennials and reap the benefits of their patronage? By staying technologically current, of course!

Social Media

57% of 18 to 24 year olds and 48.5% of 25 to 34 year olds say social media influences their choice of a hair salon or day spa. Check out which innovative spas are tweeting, who is facilitating easy appointment booking systems via social networks, and offering of-the-moment deals to loyal followers... and then ask yourself the question: Why aren't you?? It's easy and free to set up a Facebook business page or Twitter account. Offering new customers a nominal amount off a service or membership for 'liking' your page, 'following' your account, or 'subscribing' to your blog is a great way to build an online fan base.

Many small business owners don't know that the greater social media presence they have, the more they will increase their business website's Search Engine rankings on Google and with like minded companies. Think about it: on every LinkedIn or Facebook page, there is a field for you to display your personal website. This isn't just to advertise your site to fans, it is also encoded information that is tracked by Internet analytics. The more back links you have to your website out there on the worldwide web, the greater your Search Engine score, and the higher your website ranking will be when potential customers search your field in Google! Just think how much you can increase your score and your scope by creating free profiles on the net in no time.

4 Creative Marketing Tips to Increase Your Wellness Business Sales NOW!!

4 Creative Marketing Tips to Increase Your Wellness Business Sales NOW!!

Welcome to the BeWell360° Weekly Wellness Report providing indispensable business tips for today's Practitioners!

For this week's Holistic Highlight, we provide you with more industry research courtesy of the International Spa Association to take your practice
to the next level.

ISPA President Lynne McNees writes: "Since the economic downturn, the consumer is more educated than ever before when it comes to value and investing in themselves. They expect a return on their investment, and they aren't falling for any tricks or gimmicks. They want tangible results and information that will improve their quality of life."

So what can you do to market effectively to the educated consumer? How can you set yourself apart from a sea of competitors?

Customer Service

Clients are pinching every penny these days. When they pay for pampering, their expectations regarding the level of service they receive has increased exponentially! Holistic Practitioners can respond, retain, and increase their client base by customizing each guest's experience. For instance, 87% of polled spas are utilizing customer feedback mechanisms, but what else can you do? For one, start by creating a customer loyalty program. Get creative: incentivize regular customers by offering discounts on a sliding scale based on their number of visits. Referral programs are another great way to incentivize your current fans to increase your client base. Keep a log of customer birthdays and anniversaries, and offer a complimentary 30-minute session for them or their spouse.

Moreover, providing gifts with purchase (GWP) is cheaper than you think. Inquire with your current product vendors, or secure a new one. Often if you display signage in-house or a logo on your website for a specific company's product (such as a massage oil or moisturizer for instance), the vendor will provide you with free samples in exchange that can be used as GWPs for clients.  Save these product samples and use them just for those who purchase service packages in order to boost revenue!

Don't forget to personalize! It's human nature to love to see our name on things-whether you send each client home with an individualized printout of future treatment recommendations, or invest $20 in a label maker or printer template to monogram their product order, or create a welcome card upon arrival, personalizing is a great way to make guests feel special and cared for.

Giving Back

Consider offering promotional pricing or complimentary mini-pampering services to community leaders such as teachers or military personnel. Plan a monthly event when business is typically slow to accomplish these sessions such as the "First Monday of the Month". Not only are you providing a great service to those deserving or possibly in need, but it's also a great opportunity to advertise yourself as a business that cares! Your regular customers will love that, and feel all the more validated that they made the right choice of practitioners!

Giving back can also accomplish your marketing goals. Partner with a charity with a popular agenda. Give them your commitment to offer a complimentary mini session to individuals who can demonstrate a donation receipt of a certain denomination in exchange for your company information being represented on their website or direct mail campaigns. Even better, every complimentary session you perform, you convert into a potential customer by offering a future discount and securing an email for your list.

Another option is giving on a larger scale by sponsoring local events and teaming up with hospitals, schools or other related established institutions to help educate consumers about the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. You will be shocked at the free exposure you receive as well as the future referrals!

Sampling Menu

Restaurants that serve small tasting plates are hot right now, so why shouldn't the wellness industry take advantage of a sampling menu-especially for new customers in a tough economy who might be weary of a commitment. Offering mini services for busy professionals at lunchtime or a personalized grouping of sample services for the eclectic customer who wants to try everything is becoming a popular way to get a taste of treatments. With 86% of polled spas offering shorter treatments and 46% of owners experiencing an increase in 30 minute or less treatment bookings, a sampling menu seems to be the perfect small treat that will surely hook new customers for good!

Beauty Rest

If you polled all busy professionals about what they wished they could change about their busy lives, we bet you would find "getting more sleep" in the top 5 of responses! We live in a sleep-deprived society, and although pampering treatments like massages, facials, body wraps, and yoga instruction offer a respite from the craziness of modern life, it often ends so abruptly. What if you turned your slow days into profit by crafting treatments targeted at total relaxation, and then, after the 45-minute session, allowed your client to relish in the music and lie on the table for a blissful additional 45 minutes (for a total of 90), only to be softly awakened by a pre-set alarm? You not only get to book clients on previously difficult days, but it also forces you to take the extra 45 minutes to perform non-client related business tasks such as Facebook updates, email blasts, and blog entries.

Top Business Fears of Personal Trainers/Physical Therapists and the Facts to Beat Them

Most individuals who invest in certification or training in the physical training and fitness industries do so because they are passionately invested in helping other achieve increased strength, flexibility, energy and satisfaction.  In short they are enthusiastic about giving clients the gift of optimal health.  Yet for the thousands who pursue a career of this sort, the question remains: how do I gain sufficient credibility to build a large clientbase without owning my own expensive gym, books or workout videos like the fitness juggernauts we see out there in the media?   Below, we provide the top two fears for fitness entrepreneurs and the facts to supersede them to get your career booming!

FEAR: “What if I can’t get clients in this economy to invest in big-ticket training packages?”

FACT: Taking care of one’s physical health is not just a pampering treat but an indispensable investment.  New clients, on the other hand, might need to see some stone cold facts to convince them.  So use this little gem in your next business brochure or newsletter courtesy of the Merriman Curhan Ford Fitness and Wellness Report!

• More than 85% of people with Type 2 diabetes are overweight

• Physically inactive people are twice as likely to develop coronary heart disease as routinely active people

• Approximately 20% of cancer in women and 15% in men are attributable to obesity

• Annually, there are 300,000 U.S. deaths due to obesity-related complications; one out of every eight deaths is caused by an illness directly related to being overweight or obese

• Forty-five states allow health insurers to use health status and obesity as a factor to deny coverage or raise premiums

• Severely overweight and obese children often suffer from depression, low self-esteem and isolation from peers

• Overweight people earn 1-6% less than non-overweight in comparable positions

Finally, remind potential clients that the MORE they invest in preventative care such as a fitness regimen, the MORE they will save on medications and in hospitals!  Holistic business focuses on supporting individuals to achieve optimal health and well-being.  Holistic business is a billion dollar industry, and fitness comprises a massive portion of this booming industry.

FEAR: “I’m worried that I won’t be able to make a name for myself in the fitness industry without the credibility of a million dollar facility!”

FACT: It is hugely possible to carve out a profitable stake in the industry and go up against the gym giants! Use the following tips and data to motivate you to create the fitness business of your dreams:

With an estimated 84% of Americans not belonging to a gym, there remains a huge opportunity to attract and gain new members to creative fitness clubs.  Let BeWell360° teach you how to carve out a turnkey business with low overhead and lots of potential!

Currently the largest sector of growth in the fitness industry is the ‘small gym’ category, notably  ’24-hour key-card’ gyms that can be accessed by patrons at any time.  These ‘express’ gyms are usually between 2,500-5,000 square feet, near office spaces, or in smaller communities.  Since patrons and trainers can access these gyms personally (similar to a gym in a residence), the low overhead often means lower membership costs and franchise opportunities. Not only do ‘turn-key’ gyms offer convenience, they also provide a low cost location for professionals to train their clients.

Another important trend in gyms is the increase in ‘niche fitness centers’ that target very specific populations that aren’t attracted by larger companies (the most notable example being Curves). The plus side to these environments is their intimate and non-threatening nature; and because they attract a demographic that has been generally ignored by the industry at large, there is an enthusiastic, built in audience.

Consider researching the niche gyms in your area.  Look at the clients they serve (such as seniors, pregnant women, etc.) and consider creating a package around that profile.  What if you offered to bundle your services with a local niche gym, so that every one of their members received a discount off of a personal training package with you (such as “Augment your fitness! Add a personal training session to your membership at half off!”)  These gyms don’t typically have in house trainers, so you are providing a service to them that doesn’t already exist.
